IT WAS 2002 and the Araneta Coliseum was filled with a sea of blue and green. Drums thundered and cheers volleyed from each side’s galleries as the archrivals battled it out for the Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Men’s Basketball Championship. As the final buzzer sounded, the Blue Eagles emerged victorious and ended its 14-year title drought.

It has been seven long years since Mico Halili (AB Comm ’95) was seated at courtside not as mere spectator but as play-by-play commentator of ABS-CBN Sports. It has been seven long years but the exhilarating feeling of winning it all remains fresh in his mind.

THE BOWELS of Manila are never a sight to behold. Street vendors are on every corner, yelling the prices of their goods. IT’S EASY to spot Camille Kimberly Pilar in a crowd. On the surface, she wears clothes that scream her—she possesses a style that’s spunky, not flashy. However, in crowd of Comm majors, Camille stands out in more ways than her wardrobe.

One wouldn’t believe, for instance, that this “fashionista” is a Cebuana, and used to live in a little town in Mactan Island. It’s hard to imagine that underneath her self-made outfits is a person who adores Father Ferriols, and his meron philosophy. Maybe, it would come as a surprise if one discovers that this former stylist for the “Store with No Name” is also a candidate for magna cum laude, and plans to teach after graduation.

Indeed, Camille is a study in contradictions, and surprises. Know more about this outstanding senior as she sits down with COMMotion and tells us about her poetry, her fascination with comm’s interdisciplinary nature, and her belief that each person is a fashionista on his own.

THEY SAY the first time is always special – your first time to ride a bike, your first time to take a puff from a cigarette, your first kiss. Whatever the experience is, the first time will always be something that will be remembered. This month, Comm majors share their most recent first time experiences.
